Trichomes
Understanding Trichome Ripeness and THC Levels
When it's time to harvest your cannabis, the trichomes—those tiny, crystal-like resin glands on your buds—hold the key to potency and effects. Their color changes as the plant matures, giving you a visual guide for choosing your ideal harvest window:
- Clear Trichomes – The plant is still developing, and THC levels are low. Buds harvested at this stage may produce a lighter, more energetic effect.
- Cloudy (Milky) Trichomes – THC levels are at their highest. This stage is associated with strong psychoactive effects and a mix of mental and physical sensations.
- Amber Trichomes – Some of the THC has begun converting into CBN, which can produce a more relaxing, body-heavy effect.
The ideal harvest time depends on personal preference—some prefer more cloudy for potency, while others wait for more amber for a deeper, relaxing experience. Check out the chart below to see the progression in detail!
